ROADMASTER — 40’s D-POCKET RIDER JACKET

Been wanting to make a proper 40’s D-Pocket rider jacket for a while, and this is finally here.

I kept the whole thing pretty straightforward. Good proportions, useful details, and hardware that feels right for the character of the jacket.

For the leather, I personally prefer full vegetable-tanned leather, whether it’s horsehide or cowhide. There’s just something about how vegetable-tanned leather feels and develops over time that I really like.

It can start out a little firm and gradually become more comfortable with wear, picking up its own creases, marks, and character along the way. No two jackets will end up looking exactly the same, and that’s part of the fun.

The fit is slightly compact with a period-inspired silhouette. At the back, I added a gusset to give a bit more room when moving, especially around the shoulders and arms, while keeping the jacket looking clean and structured.

Then there’s the D-Pocket — one of the defining details of the jacket. It keeps that classic asymmetrical layout while still being practical enough for everyday wear.

For the front closure, I went with natural ivory cat-eye buttons. The warm ivory gives a nice bit of contrast against the leather without being too loud.

The button holes are handstitched, one by one.

For the zipper, I used a Waldes, keeping that old-school mechanical feel. The sides are finished with hammered aluminium adjusters, allowing you to fine-tune the fit around the waist.

Nothing too crazy.

Just a bunch of small details that I felt belonged on this kind of jacket.

The idea was to make something that feels like a rider jacket should — straightforward, functional, and easy to wear.

Something you can put on now and let the leather take over from there.

Made to order, one jacket at a time, here in the workshop.

Care Instructions

Basically, everyone wants patina on their leather goods. There are many ways to do this, but the natural way is the best way.

Leather is the same as our skin. It needs nutrition to maintain its quality. In this case, we advise you to use natural products that are somewhat safe for you and your leather goods, of course. Giving leather conditioners is not recommended too often. We suggest using a leather conditioner every 4-6 months.

The right leather conditioner will provide the nutrients your leather goods need. Before applying the leather conditioner, you should clean the surface of your leather goods so that it absorbs optimally. We recommend cleaning the surface of leather goods with natural ingredients, such as lemon juice. The trick, pour lemon juice into a cotton swab and then gently wipe it all over the surface of the leather goods. After it dries, then apply the leather conditioner.
To keep it from getting moldy, avoid storing your leather goods in a damp place.
